Regional Teams Invaluable to Local Farmers

Cooperative Extension regional agriculture programs are the result of unique partnerships that provide opportunities to commercial producers beyond their individual counties’ borders. These ag teams present educational programs on a wide variety of topics, consult with commercial farmers and producers in a timely manner on specific technical issues, provide on-site visits when necessary and provide assitance to beginning farmers in addition to those making production changes.

Find team members, their specific areas of expertise, and contact information on the download below.

Brian Snyder Keynote Speaker at Poultry School
Posted 2/23/2010 by Marilyn J. Smith

The March 13th “Poultry School for Small Farms” will feature Brian Snyder, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), a position he has held since 2001. PASA is considered one of the largest sustainable ag organizations in the United States, and annually hosts a Farming for the Future conference in State College (PA) that drew over 2,000 participants from 40 states and 8 different countries this year. Brian holds two masters degrees, from Harvard University (Theological Studies) and the University of Massachusetts (Business Administration).  Before moving to Pennsylvania, Mr. Snyder was Executive Director of The William J. Gould Associates, which operates Gould Farm, a 600-acre sustainable farm and mental health treatment facility in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts.  In addition to writing and speaking in a number of venues on the subject of sustainable agriculture, Mr. Snyder also serves on several other related boards, including the FoodRoutes Network (which he currently chairs), Pennsylvania State Council of Farm Organizations and Keystone Development Center.  He also serves in an advisory capacity for the Pennsylvania Dairy Task Force, the Northeast Sustainable Ag Working Group and the School of Hospitality at the Penn College of Technology in Williamsport, PA.  Brian lives with his wife Paula and two daughters, Kerry and Kayla, on a small farm in Centre Hall, PA, where they maintain an organic vegetable garden and a small flock of heritage-breed sheep.  The Poultry School hosts, Central NY RC&D, Cornell University Department of Animal Science and Cornerstone Farm Ventures are excited to have Mr. Snyder to open the program.

The event kicks off at 8:30 AM at Cornell University’s Morrison Hall and wraps up at 3:30 PM.  Cost is $45 per person or $75 for 2 people from the same farm.  Students with ID can attend for $30 and children 12 & under are $15.  You can register on-line at www.cornerstone-farm.com, or by obtaining a registration form from Central NY RC&D, 99 No. Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815 or by calling Central NY RC&D at 604-334-3231, ext. 4 for further information.  Those from out of town can reserve rooms from the ‘CU Poultry School’ block at the Ramada Inn (607)255-2000, Ithaca, for $79.95 plus tax per night.  Come join other producers and get the latest and greatest in small scale poultry production.
