Learn some simple tips for avoiding the holiday weight gain and guilt you might feel later. Taste samples will include dill mix made with yogurt cheese and light mayonnaise, and a modified baked goody. The class will include a packet of information - recipes, how to modify recipes for better health, and tips for a healthy holiday season. $10 per person. Advance paid reservation required.

Posted 11/8/2011 Today's healthy food habit tip: The USDA's Choose MyPlate reminds you to choose red, orange, and dark green vegetables like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and broccoli, along with other vegetables for your meals. Add fruit to your meals as part of main or side dishes or dessert. When serving yourself or your family, remember to make half of your plate colorful with fruits and vegetables. Posted 11/2/2011 We hear about sedentary, moderately active and active, but what does each of those mean? USDA has outlined a guide for Americans to help identify needed calories and nutrients needed based on activity level – sedentary, moderate, active Sedentary means a lifestyle that includes only the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life. Moderately active means a lifestyle that includes physical activity equivalent to walking about 1.5 to 3 miles per day at 3 to 4 miles per hour, in addition to the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life. Active means a lifestyle that includes physical activity equivalent to walking more than 3 miles per day at 3 to 4 miles per hour, in addition to the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life. Work toward increasing your activity level to be the most active you can, consulting your doctor for your personal guidelines.
