4-H Youth Development
4-H Volunteer Meeting

4-H Volunteer Meeting will be Tuesday, May 30th @ 6pm in room 111 of the Montgomery County Annex building. All 4-H volunteers, leaders and interested parents are invited to attend. Highlights to include: program area updates, fair updates, community service/events, record books and more!
Favorite snacks are welcome!

4-H Teen Council

Who: Fulton-Montgomery 4-H Teens. All youth, 13 & older (as of January 1st) are encouraged to attend. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm!

When: Wednesday, May 24th @ 6:00 - 8:00pm

Where: Montgomery County Annex, Room 111

What: A county level 4-H leadership group for teen 4-H members. Its prupose is to help teen 4-Her's develop leadership skills, while helping to build a strong bi-county 4-H program that benefits all members and volunteers in our counties.  Come join us for an evening of fun, including: icebreakers, team building games, pizza, brainstorming ideas and setting goals for the teen council.

Matt Gogis and Haleigh Dutcher are the Adult advisors.

 

DAC Livestock & Equine Nutrition Clinis

Join DAC New York for an informational session with Rusty Bingham of Lean Value Sires and Jen Snell Bruno. This clinis is a great opportunity to learn about the proper nutrients required for a healthy specimen in each species of livestork, and horses. DAC representave, Amanda Zemken, will also be speaking on the awards being offered for 4-H Champions and Reserve Champions for the 2017 fair season.

Double Rabbit & Cavy Youth Show

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Genesee County 4-H Fur and Feather Club along with Wyoming County 4-H Rabbit Ears Club are hosting a double rabbit and cavy youth show on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Genesee County Fairgrounds, 5056 East Main St., Rd., Batavia.

The show is open to all local youth ages 19 and younger (you do not need to be a 4-H member). Showroom opens at 8:00 am, health checked by 9:00am, judging promptly begins at 10:00am.  Entry Fee is $3.00 per animal if postmarked by April 21, 2017 or $4.00 day of show.

Where: Schoharie County Sunshine Fairgrounds

What: Judging Clinics for beef/sheep, Sheep showmanship, Cattle Clipping & fitting, Practice evaluation classes, Reason Practice w/individual feedback, Helpful talk sessions for parents, Livestock Id/skillathon

Registration Fee Includes: Participation in all clinic & competition activities, Breakfast, Lunch, Drawsting bag, notebook, pen & t-shirt.

All animal entries for the 4-H show at the Fonda Fair must be postmarked by August 1st or brought into the 4-H office in Fonda by the end of the day on Monday, August 3rd.  Call the office with any questions.  

Discover Christmas Trees: K-8 Curriculum

'Tis the season to check out the Discover Christmas Trees curriculum. It includes dynamic lesson plans and activities that span all subject areas, and are aligned to NYS and Common Core Learning Standards. Find more information and the free curriculum on our website. Courtesy of the New York State Christmas Tree Farmers Association. This would be a great resource to use in the classroom or in your local 4-H club!

 

 

Discover 4-H Day: Saturday, October 4th

Wondering, what 4-H is, how to join 4-H? It’s time to enroll in the 4-H program. Bring your family to DISCOVER 4-H DAY! Saturday, October 4th, 1-4 pm at the Fonda Fair. This is a day to explore 4-H. Activities will include hands on areas to visit 4-H animals, see 4-H projects,talk to 4-H members and volunteers. Each youth will receive a passport of 4-H activities. Other activities will include face painting, fun games and more! A prize will be given to every youth that returns a stamped passport at the end of their visit to DISCOVER 4-H DAY! Admission to this 4-H event is FREE. Come for a fun filled day!!

4-H is the largest out of school youth organization in the United States with over 6 million youth members.

In the 2008-2009 program year, 7,523 young people ages 5-19 participated in 4-H programs in Fulton and Montgomery Counties with more than 200 volunteers contributing more than 42,000 hours in nurturing, caring relationships with youth.
