Regional Teams Invaluable to Local Farmers

Cooperative Extension regional agriculture programs are the result of unique partnerships that provide opportunities to commercial producers beyond their individual counties’ borders. These ag teams present educational programs on a wide variety of topics, consult with commercial farmers and producers in a timely manner on specific technical issues, provide on-site visits when necessary and provide assitance to beginning farmers in addition to those making production changes.

2020 Corn Day

 The 2020 Corn Day will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the The Otesaga Resort Hotel, 60 Lake Street, Cooperstown, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. 

The registration is $30 per person and includes lunch. For registration go to the link below:

Registration must be received in the office by Friday, February 7, Noon. NO EXCEPTIONS!
There will be 2 DEC Pesticide Recertification Credits, Categories: 1a, 10, 21 or 23, available. You must be present by 10:30 and have your Applicator ID with you upon signing the roster to receive credit!
For Certified Crop Advisors continuing education credits will be available: 1.5 CEU Integrated Pest Management,  .5 CEU Crop Management and  .5 CEU Soil and Water Management.
The morning will be devoted to soil health with two excellent speakers.  Dr. Carmen Greenwood, Associate Professor in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Environmental Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill will talk about how soil health affects soil fauna.  We more often talk the soil flora response but Dr. Greenwood will lead us in a discussion of the how animals like mites are an indicator of soil health.  Our second speaker is Dave Magos of Morning Star Farms in Jefferson County, NY who has been successful in converting his dairy(850 cows) and crop(2600 acres) farm to 100% notill. For those who wonder how it can be done you won’t want to miss this opportunity to talk to and interact with Dave.

2019 NY & VT Corn Silage Preliminary Report

Corn Silage Growers  -  Attached is an initial report with the Corn Silage Hybrid Evaluation Program results for 2019.  This gets you all of the yield, maturity and forage quality data but doesn’t have the predicted milk yields that will be in the full report.
