The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is looking for landowners to help with a large-scale study of wild turkey movements, survival, and harvest. This study will involve turkey hens being captured and fitted with leg bands. The objective of the banding study is to examine harvest rates, survival rates, and movements of hens.
DEC is seeking landowners in Regions 3 through 9 who would be interested in allowing birds to be trapped on their land, as well as alerting project coordinators when they see turkeys on their property. View the attached list to identify the project coordinator in your region and become part of this project.

On Friday, November 7, over 120 Fulton and Montgomery county 4-H members, family members and volunteers celebrated their annual recognition night at the Amsterdam Elk’s Lodge. Throughout the year 4-Hers participate in projects ranging from woodworking and sewing, to horticulture and animal science. These projects culminate in exhibits at the Fonda Fair in late August, where 4-Hers show off their work to the general public. The members who document activities in their record books and turn them in to be judged on merit are eligible to receive project award discs, a symbol of their years’ worth of hard work and dedication to their projects.

On November 4th Election Day, thirty-three Fulton/Montgomery 4-Hers and Volunteers traveled to several polling locations throughout Montgomery County as part of the Capital District Election Service Project. When the polls closed at 9:00pm the youth and volunteers waited for the results from each polling machine, recorded them and then called the results in to the media so that the pre-liminary results could be posted that evening.
This was a great learning experience for the 4-H youth and volunteers! The above photo is of Mackenzie and Dorothy Hart viewing the polling machine printouts and recording their results.
